Migration of Accounts to New Website

itsoc.org users are being asked to update their email address to agree with their IEEE Single-Sign On email address.

Our site itsoc.org is getting a major update soon, with a modern look and great new features. One of the new features is login with IEEE Single-Sign On (SSO).

As a member, we are asking you to change your email address on itsoc.org to match the email address you use as a username at ieee.org (to login to your IEEE account, your username is an email address). If you do so, you will be able to sign in to the new site using your IEEE Single-Sign On credentials.  Otherwise, your profile data may be lost when we migrate to the new site. To make this change:

  1. Login to your itsoc.org account.
  2. Click on your name in the upper-right hand corner > Preferences > Personal Information
  3. Under "Email", enter the email address you use to sign in to ieee.org, then click save If you need help, see  IEEE Members: Forgot password .

These instructions apply only if you are a member of the IEEE Information Theory Society.  If you are not a member, then  please join .  Your email address on itsoc.org is only used for account management, never for any other purpose.

Privacy

Your privacy is important. The email address you enter in Step 3 above will be shown either only to IT Society members, or publicly, depending on your Display My Email Address setting; there is no option to completely hide it — this is a limitation of the current site.  On the new site, email addresses will be hidden by default. But in the interim before migration, you may not want your IEEE Single-Sign On email address to be displayed at all. If so, please contact  [email protected] .

More Information

A unique feature of itsoc.org is the user profile page.  It has various data which you choose to enter, including your name, portrait, biography and contact information.  In addition, your participation in the IT Society is automatically listed.  You can find your profile page at itsoc.org/profiles/USERNAME where USERNAME is your username.  This feature will be migrated to the new itsoc.org website.

However, accounts on the current itsoc.org are independent of that individual's IEEE Single-Sign On, since itsoc.org was developed before IEEE Single-Sign On existed.  In order to preserve your profile data on the new site, we need to connect your itsoc.org account with your IEEE account.  The best way to do this is to ask the users of itsoc.org to update their mail address to agree with the one they use for IEEE Single-Sign On.

We are asking users to update their email address before data migration from the old site to the new site occurs. Users without a matching email address will not be able to access their account on the new site, since login authentication will be through IEEE Single-Sign On.

There are some cases of individuals who are not Information Theory Society members, but can have their profile data preserved.  If you think this applies to you, please contact [email protected].

Thank you very much for helping us migrate to a new itsoc.org.  We look forward to showing you the new site soon.
