To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Information Theory, the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society has instituted the following awards to be given at the 1998 International Symposium on Information Theory, Cambridge, Massachusetts, August 1998.
IEEE INFORMATION THEORY SOCIETY GOLDEN JUBILEE AWARDS FOR TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION
Awarded to the authors of discoveries, advances and inventions that have had a profound impact in the technology of information transmission, processing and compression. Nominations should include a statement describing the nature and impact of the technological innovation as well as a proposed citation.
Awarded to outstanding articles published in the {\em IEEE Transactions on Information Theory} whose impact on the development of the fields of interest to the Information Theory Society is now widely recognized. Papers that have received the Information Theory Society Paper Award are not eligible. Nominations should include a statement describing why the nominated paper deserves the award as well as a proposed citation.
