The Information Theory Society awards its highest honor, the Claude E. Shannon Award, annually. The purpose of this award is to honor consistent and profound contributions to the field of information theory. The recipient is chosen by a selection committee consisting of Society officers and two former Shannon Award recipients.
Professor Jacob Ziv of the Technion -- Israel Institute of Technology has been selected by the IEEE Information Theory Society as the recipient of the 1997 Claude E. Shannon Award.
At the request of the IT Newsletter Editor, Dr. Aaron Wyner of Lucent Technologies held a conversation with Professor Ziv in honor of his 65th birthday. The conversation took place prior to the 1997 Shannon Award announcement.
