Frranco Chiaraluce received his Laurea Degree (summa cum laude) in Electronics Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Marche (formerly University of Ancona) in 1985. Since 1987 he joined the Polytechnic University of Marche where he is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, being in charge of several courses in the area of Telecommunications.
Institutional responsibilities: Since 2007 to 2008 Prof. Chiaraluce was the vice-director of the Department of Electronics, Artificial Intelligence and Telecommunications of the same university. Since 2008 he is a member of the Committee of the PhD school in "Engineering Science" and Coordinator of some PhD Courses in the areas of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. He has been the Coordinator of the Socrates/Erasmus project between the Polytechnic University of Marche and the University of Ulster at Jordanstown (Northern Ireland).
Supervision activities: Prof. Chiaraluce has been the tutor of more than 230 graduated students, most of them at master level, and the supervisor of 7 PhD students. Ha also acted as a reviewer for national and international research projects.
Research activities: His research interests are currently focused on error correcting codes, physical layer security and cryptography. He is co-author of about 290 scientific papers, 2 books and co-inventor of 2 patents on code-based cryptography. Collaborations: Prof. Chiaraluce has several national and international cooperations, both with universities and research centers and with industries. Among the international cooperation with universities, at present he is working extensively with researchers at the University of Bergen (Norway), the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and the University of Split (Croatia). Among the industries, he has played the role of technical consultant for many joint studies with, for example, Marconi Telecommunications, Siemens, Telecom Italia, Thales. Moreover, since many years, he cooperates with the European Space Agency (ESA) on research activities concerning error correcting codes for space applications. He also contributes, on behalf of ESA, to the standardization issues promoted by the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS).
